Each year for the past 17 years, Vanity Fair features some of Hollywood’s brightest stars on it’s fold out cover. The covers for this special edition are always beautifully styled and designed. For the March 2012 issue 11 young actresses were transformed into screen sirens thanks to the help of makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, hair stylings by Oribe and nails by Deborah Lippmann.
The Art Deco theme inspired cover is quite possibly one of my favorites with the stunning setting and pastel hues – I always sit up and pay close attention to details when an art deco theme is even hinted at.
Today’s post is all about the nails featured on the cover! Here’s a listing of the neutral polish shades Deborah used on each of the stars:
•Rooney Mara – Whatever Lola Wants (fingers and toes)
•Jennifer Lawrence – Bring on the Bling (fingers and toes)
•Mia Wasikowska – Naked (fingers and toes)
•Jessica Chastain – Naked on fingers, Glamorous Life on toes
•Elizabeth Olsen - Baby Love with Bring on the Bling layered on both fingers and toes
•Adepero Oduye – Naked (fingers and toes)
•Shailene Woodley – Baby Love on fingers and Prelude to a Kiss with Baby Love on toes
•Paula Patten – Naked (fingers and toes)
•Felicity Jones - Baby Love (fingers and toes)
•Lily Collins – Naked (fingers and toes)
•Brit Marling – Fashion with Naked on fingers and Diamonds & Pearls on toes
I’m usually a one nail color at a time kind of gal but I’m inspired to layer polish shades as Deborah has done on these Hollywood beauties.
If you haven’t picked up this collectors issue (the 18th edition) I sure hope you do because it also features a rare interview with the infamous blond bombshell Brigitte Bardot – the photos included are glorious to pore through!
What special plans do you have this Saturday? My plans unexpectedly changed but I’m in good spirits since it’s shining like it’s Spring!
I’ve been in love with magazines since my days as an avid Tiger Beet aficionado. My love of magazines was so great, it later turned into a career in magazine publishing.
Today, I’ve graduated from reading about hunky heartthrobs like Scott Baio to scouring pages of fashion magazines on the prowl for beauty inspiration. And it’s rare when I don’t spend a significant amount of time studying the makeup used on the cover.
I’m taking a chance here in the hopes that like me, you hunt for the description of all the makeup items used on the cover, jot them down so you can pick them up or, at the very least, recreate the look using items you already have.
For the inaugural edition of On the Cover, I’m tickled pink to feature my personal fashion icon, Gwen Stefani. Her hot pink lip on the cover of InStyle (November 2011 issue) had me examining the magazine with a magnifying glass!
Although the magazine did not list the lipstick makeup artist Charlotte Willer used on the cover, L’Oreal (Gwen is a spokesmodel for the brand) was good enough to share the combo which includes:
•L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge – Forever Fuchsia
•L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss – Watermelon Crush (this is mostly shine with very little color)
And because the focus was on the lips, the skin was polished to perfection, and eyes were kept neutral and soft except for lavish lashes. This look is very Marilyn Monroe ala diamonds are a girls best friend, don’t you think?
When I got to page 302, I made it a personal mission to find out what was used on Gwen for eyes and lips. Here’s what I found…
•L’Oreal Paris eyeshadow in Midnight Sky #212 (shown above)
•L’Oreal Paris eyeshadow in Spring Leaf (I drove around town looking for this and couldn’t find it anywhere)*
•L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge in Blazing Sangria #714
*In my collection I found a MAC shadow, Surf USA, from the Surf Baby collection which comes pretty close.
Do you enjoy cover looks as much as I do? What was the last cover look you fell head over heels for?
