Coming Attractions: MAC Make Me Over Beauty Black Book Picks
While hitting my usual cosmetic department haunts I noticed the MAC Make Me Over collection on display…bright, shiny, waiting to be swatched by yours truly.
Taking photos in department store lighting is virtually impossible (although it may be a user issue…the user being moi). So instead of showing you swatches now, I’ll share them with you as soon as the items are available for purchase (the collection hits counters and MAC stores on 8/25 – my counter only provided a collection tease, no purchases were yet allowed).
Make Me Over is MAC’s fall collection and is a good sized collection divided into three mini collections; Icelandic Cool, New Black and MAC Basics.
After dipping my fingers and swatching every item I could get my hands on (there are 45+ items in this collection and yes, I had swatch burn by the time I was done!) I’ve whittled the list of beauty black book fall picks as follows:
Icelandic Cool
•Lady Grey Eyeshadow quad ($38) consists of four sophisticated and edgy shades for fall; All Races (a matte cool taupe/mauve), Tendersmoke (a frosted silver lilac), Lady Grey (my favorite shade in the quad is a satin green/grey), Hazy Day (a mid-tone grey velux pearl). The shadows all swatched beautifully, are well pigmented and gorgeous!
•Shadesticks are back (hooray!) and in five shades ($17.50). You can’t go wrong with any of them but I felt the following were stand out: Street Cool (a grey violet taupe), Cakeshop (a frosty pewter that has a slight green tinge in certain lighting).
New Black
•I’m a big fan of Fluidlines ($15) and in the Make Me Over collection there are four; Dark Diversion (a darkened plum), Avenue (charcoal black with gold pearl), Midnight Blue (blackened blue), and Dark Envy (a blackened green). I will probably end up getting all of them but if forced to choose, I’d select Avenue, Dark Envy and Midnight Blue.
•MAC nail polishes ($15) aren’t my favorite formulation but Deep Sea (a beautiful deep teal) looks too good to pass up.
MAC Basics
There are many permanent items in this collection like Satin Taupe shadow for example. For this post, I’ll focus on the limited edition items you might want to consider.
•A total of six single shadows ($15) are included and of them Mythical (a well pigmented frosted copper – gorgeous!) and Carbonized (a frosty chocolate brown in velux pearl formulation) had my tummy all-a-flutter. Next to the Lady Grey quad, these two shadows are my favorite items from the entire Make Me Over collection.
*The only lipstick ($14.50) I consider collection worthy is Offshoot (a neutral, midtone pink in cremesheen formulation) but I should tell you it’s not especially unique – I just liked the color
•If you’ve never tried Cream Colour Base ($17) I urge you to give Seaside (a soft rosy peach) a try. I can see myself using this as shadow, highlighter for face and eyes and even on lips.
I’m anxious to show you swatches so please plan on coming back! How about you? Anything from this collection making its way onto your vanity?
