My Body is Loving the Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre in Féérie but my Face Say’s No Glow

posted by Liz |@beautyblkbook

I don’t think I’ve ever taken this long to review a product.  Not because it’s a troublesome product but because I wasn’t exactly sure if this product was best suited to me…you know how that goes.

When my wonderful Chanel SA showed me the Poudre Universelle Libre in Féérie I oohed and ahed at the gorgeousness of it all.  Unfortunately, this was the only item that she didn’t have a tester for so I picked up the product by sight alone.

She told me how enchanted she was with this product specifically from the holiday collection – she even shared this was the one item on her personal wish list – given how it was demonstrated at her meeting for the collection.  Well say no more, I told her.  I was sold!

It was only after bringing the powder home that I noticed this product was loaded with sparkly bits.  I know you’re thinking to yourself, so what’s the problem Liz?  After all, if it shimmers and shines I’m all over it.

The thing is, I’m not a huge fan of sparkles on my face.  On my eyes and lips, no problem.  On my face however, I prefer a luminous, pearl-like shimmer.  So when I saw the sparkles (although they are very fine versus chunky) I felt certain I made a tragic makeup mistake.

Photo taken in natural daylight.  You can see the micro-sparkle on my bare arm.

After playing with this silky soft, finely milled, faintly pink (you can see a light pink shade in the jar but on my skin, it’s transparent in color) loose setting powder I decided that on me, it is best used on the décolletage and shoulders.

On the body, it leaves a delicate sprinkling of micro-sparkles that hits the light in the most magical way and is perfect for the holiday’s.

Availability: Chanel counters and chanel.com (limited edition)
Price: $52US, 1oz

3/5 Smooches:  If only it had more glow

Nice to hear from you Gee! I definitely don’t think this is a must-have item. I’ll use it on the body and as you say, on the lids, etc. but not my face.

Thanks for the honest opinion. I would hate to look like a disco ball (even though I am young), I prefer a matte, or rather “natural” look. This is the first time reading your blog from a random re:chanel google search and I really appreciate a discerning opinion. I feel like a lot of beauty blogs these days are giving a pass on chanel and dior these days (cafe makeup and the beauty look book in particular — do they ever give a bad review?). I love me some chanel, in fact, most of my makeup is chanel, but I have been super underwhelmed with the aforementioned brand products these days.

So happy you fond my blog Mackenzie! I love Dior and Chanel and it’s rare that I don’t like a product from either brand. But, this powder – as beautiful as it is – just isn’t doing it for me. Stop by again soon!

Is the glitter chunky? it looks so beautiful in the jar :-(

    • Liz says:

      Hi Kriselie!

So sorry I’m only now getting back to you – tech issues with posts, etc.

The glitter is *very* fine (micro glitter) and the powder itself is also finely milled. If you don’t mind a glittery twinkle on your skin you may find this delightful. In the jar it is stunning but for me, I can’t pull off glitter (no matter the size) on my face.. ;-(

I’m sorry I love Chanel alot but what were they thinking? i tested this in the store and i could not imagine why someone would want to put this on their face? Only is you want to look like a glittery, sparkling christmas ornement. Could hardly get it off. Really think this is a misser and do not think your sales lady was really being honest and I do not like that because you buy stuff that you afterwards regret.

    • Liz says:

      Hi Nawi!

This was the only item she didn’t have a tester for. Had I tested it first, I would have passed. She loved it and her skin is flawless so I could see this looking very pretty (ethereal) on her but me…not so much.
