Chanel Perfection Lumiére: 20 Shades, 3 Undertones, 3.5 Smooches

posted by Liz |@beautyblkbook

A few weeks ago, I had the thrill of a makeover at my Nordstrom counter.  RC Stephens, Chanel Makeup Maven and his team, were brushes at the ready to give those of us waiting with bated breath a new fall look.

This was right around the time Perfection Lumiére was released so you can imagine what foundation was used…yup, you guessed it!

I liked the finish and velvety feel of the foundation so much I ended up taking a bottle home with me (my shade is B20).

Yes, it does have an SPF10.

Compared to other formulations in the Chanel lineup, Perfection Lumiére boasts a wider range of shades – 20 to be exact – from as light to as dark as could be achieved with this formulation.  The shades also come in three undertone groupings:

  • A shade ending in 0 is a neutral undertone
  • A shade ending in 2 is a pink base
  • A shade ending in 4 is a warm undertone

The finish of this foundation on my normal-to-dry skin is semi-matte and I find it to be sheer to medium in coverage.  And, I also do not need to set it with powder although those with oilier skins may need a touch of powder.

Perfection Lumiére hugs the skin in such a way that it feels like a second skin, which I appreciate.  What I like most about this foundation is how easy it is to build without looking like you’ll need to scrape the stuff off!

I was told the Perfection Lumiére technology includes light reflecting powders and pigments that blur imperfections on the skin.  While it didn’t make me look air brushed (a girl can hope, right?), I did not find my imperfections were made more prominent, as some finishes can sometimes do.

Note: The bottle is glass and feels substantial in the hand.

My appointment was at 11:30am and it wore flawlessly until I took it off later that night around 9:00pm.  No migration, no collecting in fine lines, no irritation and on my skin I experienced no oxidization (although often – but not always – oxidization is due more to the skins Ph level than the product itself but it is worth mentioning).

Oh, and I can’t forget to mention how incredibly good this foundation smells!  It’s rare that I ever like the smell of any foundation but this one is simply…pretty.  The aroma fades quickly (after about 10 minutes or so) but I still found the experience of such a pleasant scent nice.  If you don’t like fragrant products, this might put you off.

I wanted to show you the pump dispenser.  I’m forever spoiled…no more pour bottles for me (or wire hangers by the way)!

Left to Right: Perfection Lumiére in B20 from the bottle and the swiped (no blending) with fingers.  For reference, I am an NC20-25 in MAC, and 21 in Dior.  B20 isn’t an exact match…a mix of B10 and B20 is a perfect shade, but at $55 a bottle, B20 works just fine, thank you!  Karla Sugar swatched all 20 shades which you can check out here for reference.

All in all, I enjoyed my makeup experience and am absolutely loving the Perfection Lumiére foundation.

Availability: Chanel counters, chanel.com
Price: $55US, 1oz

3.5/5 Smooches:  If the formulation offered more coverage (I prefer medium-full), I would have given this foundation 4.5 smooches!

Hi Liz, how do you determine what your undertoon is? I don’t know what my undertoon is?

      Hi nawi!!

The best way to find out is to look at the inside of your wrist in natural daylight. If your veins appear blue you likely have a cool undertone. If they appear more green (or yellow green) in color, you have a warm undertone. And if you can’t tell if your veins are blue or green because you see a little of both, you might have a neutral undertone. Hope this helps some!
