Recently, I started cleaning up my act in the food department.  My life now consists of green smoothies (I adore!), fresh organic fruit and loads of vegetables.

And while I’m feeling better now at 47 than I did in my 20’s I do miss one thing…cake!

There’s nothing about cake I don’t love.  From their versatile nature (short ones, tall ones, full ones, skinny ones) to the array of toppings….they are delicious works of art.

Insert napkin break…my mouth is watering ;-)

I won’t fib, when I noticed the MAC Me Over collection offered a Shadestick called Cakeshop my taste buds were the first to notice.  Sad?  Yes, even I have to agree.

After my initial pavlovian response, I fell head over heels with the color.

Cakeshop is described by MAC as a frosted pewter.  In reality, it’s more unique than that because while there is a detectable frosted pewter hue there is also a slight green tinge to it.

Like most Shadesticks, Cakeshop is creamy, and glides on easily (a very dense synthetic brush will work but I find fingers your best tool with this product).  You can use this sumptuous Shadestick as an all over lid color or as an eyeshadow base.  The other day, I used Cakeshop as a lower lash liner along with the muted green grey shadow from the Lady Grey quad – it doesn’t  get better than that folks!

I don’t own a shadow in a color quite like this.

I’m delighted with this Shadestick and will be picking up another in Street Cool (a violet taupe with grey).

Isn’t it nice to know that we can have our cake and eat apply it too…

What about you?  Are you a fan of stick cream shadows or do you prefer the potted form?

Availability: MAC stores, MAC counters and maccosmetics.com (Cakeshop is a limited edition shade)

Price: $17.50, 0.05 oz

4/5 Smooches: Cakeshop smoothie anyone?

When I heard MAC was launching new fluidlines I was ridiculously giddy.  The last time I was this over the moon was when my hubby surprised me with tickets to a recent Joan Jett concert – I immediately turned into a screaming sixteen year old.

I didn’t scream when I brought home fluidlines in Avenue and Dark Envy (from the New Black sub-collection of the MAC Me Over collection)…but I did feel a pulse of excitement in my throat.

Gel liners are my eyeliner of choice.  They glide on easily creating a precise line – as thin or thick as you choose – and wear like nobody’s business.  Seriously, MAC fluidline dries within about 10-15 seconds of applying and won’t smudge, flake or come off until you’re ready (have eye makeup remover handy).

•Avenue is a stunning deep blackened brown with subtle gold flecks of fine glitter.  If you get one thing from the MAC Me Over collection I would suggest this liner.  Because of the glitter, I also suggest you keep this away from the waterline.  As a side note, I can’t help but wonder if Joan would wear this…I’m thinking, yes.

Dark Envy is described as a blackened green but it is instead a deep hunter green with a slight metallic or pearl finish (could it be both?).  It does not go on as intensely in color as it is in the pot but you can build the color to deep levels of green goodness.  With my passion for green, Dark Envy will be in heavy rotation this fall.

Both fluidlines can be used in the obvious way, as an eyeliner, and work beautifully as base for eyeshadows.

You drive me wild fluidline…you really do!

Availability: A Limited Edition collection, you can find the fluidlines at MAC stores, MAC counters and maccosmetics.com while supplies last.

Price: $15

4/5 Smooches: Pour me another!

And a quick shot of Joan Jett LIVE (she was spectacular!)

The wind was howling but Joan Jett rocked it like it was her first concert.

I just got my hands on a few pieces from the MAC Me Over collection and wanted to share a few photos with you.  Although I haven’t had ample time to play with the items I am so far very pleased with what I picked up.

I’m especially thrilled with the Lady Grey eyeshadow quad – the colors are divine and from what I can tell, has very nice pigmentation.

And please don’t get me started on the Avenue and Dark Envy fluidlines.  Have I mentioned I may be slightly more addicted to fluidlines than chocolate chip cookies?  Yeah, it’s true!

I’ll be sharing swatches in the next day or so along with my “official statement” about the collection.

P.S. MAC Me Over contain limited edition items (surprise, surprise).  Rumor has it some stores launched today with dismal excitement while others sold out of items quickly (like the MAC pro store I got my items through).  If you’re interested in any of the LE items, you may want to move quickly.

P.P.S. The MAC Me Over collection is available now in the u.s. at all MAC stores, MAC counters and on maccosmetics.com.

I’ve had a long standing love affair with Dior since the 80’s.  I realize I’ve just shown my age but hey, 47 is treating me pretty well ☺

Maybe it’s the beautiful blue and now silver compacts that tantalize me.  Or maybe it’s the velvet pouches they come in that have me swooning.  Yes, Dior packaging is luxurious, sensual and even the strongest gal can’t resist its charm.

All of that aside, what first sold me on Dior was this magnificent rose facial exfoliator that is sadly, discontinued.  I’m a sucker for a subtle rose aroma.
Later, I explored their shadows (the only ones I would buy until recently) and was in awe at the silky, lush textures and easy blendability.  You can see why Dior had me at hello.
And this summer Dior tempted me (and you?) again with their Electric Tropics collection.

To be entirely candid, there’s really nothing “electric” about the collection save for the polishes but a little marketing mishap didn’t stop me from being completely and utterly electrified  (yeah, I’m being cheesy today) by the collection.

I rarely pass up the chance to pick up a Dior quint and in this collection I chose Rosy Tan.  For a summer palette it’s not especially bright.  In fact, it’s a nice neutral shimmery collection of shades that blend like nobody’s business – for real – and while most lines release colorful palettes for summer I’m okay with Dior taking us in a different direction (it’s true love for me after all).

My Dior counter manager, Eric, convinced me I needed both of their Diorskin Nude Healthy Glow powders.  These powders are Amaazing (with a capital A) and are imprinted with a woven pattern much like that of the Lady Dior Avenue tote (a beautiful bag by the way).

Originally I was vying for the Aurora (a breath taking combination of pinks, soft tan and soft bronze) which was created for fair to medium complexions but after talking with Eric I figured why not also get the Sunset palette which is much deeper in shading.

I’m so glad I picked up both because they’re both equally stunning.  The powder is silky and glides on the skin easily and imparts a lovely sheen.  They’re both very pigmented so a little dab will do you particularly with the deeper shade of Sunset.  In MAC-speak I am an NC20-25 and the Sunset works but only if I apply it sparingly and with a light hand (a stippling brush is my brush of choice for this one).

This year, Dior introduced the Healthy Glow Summer Fluid.  A lightly textured liquid to powder finish, this product gives a sheer wash of color that can be used alone on bare skin or mixed with foundation for a sun kissed glow.  There are two shades in the Electric Tropics collection and I chose 01 Rosy Nude.

At first glance I rejected this product because it looked far too dark for me.  But after playing with it I realized a) I could use a tad more color this summer and b) the color intensity does sheer out if you use a light hand.  So, in my bag it went.

I find this product works best when used with foundation (1-2 drops should be enough).   It gave my face a touch more warmth and looked velvety on my skin – not overly dewy and not matte.  And in case you’re wondering, there are no shimmers or glitters as you often find in products of this nature.

The only part of this collection I was disappointed with were the Dior Addict Crystal Glosses.  They claim to deliver hydration and volume to the lips – I experienced neither.  The shades are lightly tinted – more so in the tubes than on lips – and offer next to nothing in terms of color.

They are more slick (that’s my way of saying a slippery mess) than other Dior glosses and tend to bleed.  To get some wear out of these I’m applying them over brighter toned lip pencils.  In this way, they add a nice sheen to the lips but honestly, a clear gloss from any drugstore brand would do the same.

Every love affair comes with at least one gripe and mine are the Crystal glosses.  Boo hiss!
Otherwise, the collection is a departure from the in your face brights we’re seeing for summer.  If you like neutrals but want your look to reflect a hint of a summer glow this could be the collection for you.
Are you into this seasons bright oranges and pinks or do you prefer summery neutrals?  What are you grabbing from this collection…anything?
