What’s on My Vanity
New beauty items are fun. Oh who am I kidding, they are my extreme sport! But it warms my heart to place items that may have lost some of its “new car smell” on my vanity. With each item I remember fondly what I was doing when I purchased it, where I was in my life and the excitement I felt as I carried my carefully wrapped item home. Makeup (at least for me) holds more than just the power to transform and express, it’s a historical touchstone reminding me where I’ve been and where I’ve yet to go…
The lighting is off on this shot but in the back is a Dior illuminating highlight powder from the Flower Blossom collection (2008…yikes!). Talk about beauty archives! It’s just as beautiful today as it was when I first purchased it..a gift to myself for landing a new client after completely revamping my business strategy (it worked very well).
My beloved bare Minerals READY 2.0 eyeshadows which launched last year. Truly some of the best shadows ever! I picked these up just before a trip to see my folks in Oregon…they were on the tail end of recovering from a bad flu, it was so cold we couldn’t really go anywhere but despite all of that, we shared some great laughs.
One of my top 3 favorite cream bronzers from Sue Devitt. The color is terrific and leaves a wonderful sheen to my skin. I picked this up last year when I was coming out of a terrible (and long) sick spell…I needed a makeup lift, and wanted to feel good again! It looked too dark – I thought for sure I’d need to exchange it – but one application and it proved itself as a never be without product.
Here lay a few of the items that tell some part of my historical story…a story I’ve grown to appreciate. And just think, history was my least favorite topic in school! How does that saying go, when the student is ready the teacher appears.

Have a beauty filled week!

P.S. You see that Milani blush (the gold compact) in the last photo? I jumped through ridiculous HOOPS to get my hands on that one and felt like Harrison Fords character (Raiders) looking for the lost arc! I reminded myself that when absolutely necessary, I have the tenacity of a terrier…or a wilful archeologist at the very least

My desk is often overflowing with samples, brochures, look books, and then of course…product. I wanted to give you a peek at what just landed on my beauty desk thanks to Mr. UPS. It’s a collection that Lisa & Leslie (QVC host and creator of Bare Escentuals respectively) tempted me with so much that I not only had to purchase but I absolutely had to get it on auto ship!
On my desk: The bare Minerals Return to Radiance illuminating 8-piece collection for face, eyes, lips. The item that pushed me over the edge was the Neutralizing Prime Time primer. I’m not a fan of the original primer but this primer has a yellow tint that promises to help reduce redness. Come on…I couldn’t say no to a color correcting primer! I haven’t tried the new Ready blushes so this is going to be a fun week of testing.
Although I don’t shop on television like I may have done in years past, I will always jump at a good beauty Today’s Special. Yup…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Expect detailed photos and a review of the collection within the next couple of weeks. If you have a question before then, feel free to leave it for me below.

The holidays are always filled with excitement and anticipation as beauty mavens gather at local cosmetic counters and online aisles to celebrate the launch of beautifully packaged limited edition palettes.
I’ve already written about my top 5 holiday palette picks over at Scottsdale Fashionista. And now, I’m going to post my review of some of those palettes starting with bareMinerals READY 8.0 shadows in The Playlist.
A few months ago I stumbled upon the new READY eyeshadow formulations and have been spoiled rotten by their incredible quality – their buttery smooth texture, glorious pigmentation and blendability.
The Playlist is an 8-shadow palette made up of warm, festive shades housed in a glitzy gold mirrored compact and includes a decent brush.
I’m adoring the names! But the beauty is in the shadows themselves…
A wonderful palette for travel and easy to carry in your purse.
Top Row Left to Right: Pumped, Chart Topper, Max Volume, Louder | Bottom Row Left to Right: One Hit Wonder, Most Requested, Remix, Speaker Box
Look at the amazing finishes! It’s truly a dreamy palette.
Left to Right: Pumped, Chart Topper, Max Volume (a blackened green), Louder
Left to Right: One Hit Wonder, Most Requested, Remix, Speaker Box (a blackened olive)
bareMinerals did not skimp on quality. I’m delighted that the quality of the shadows in The Playlist are stellar. If you’re shopping for a beauty lover on your list – or for yourself – you’ll love this one!
Availability: Sephora (limited edition)
Price: $40US, .28oz
5/5 Smooches: These bareMineral READY shadows are no one hit wonders!
This Week in History…
After doing a little research, I found the most popular hits for the week of December 14th in the year of my birth. Here was the top 10 music lineup:
- Dominique, the Singing Nun
- Louie Louie, the Kingsmen
- Everybody, Tommy Roe
- I’m Leaving it Up to You, Dale & Grace
- You Don’t Have to be a Baby, the Caravelles
- Since I Fell for You, Lenny Welch
- Be True to Your School, the Beach Boys
- Drip Drop, Dion
- There! I’ve Said it Again, Bobby Vinton
- Walking the Dog, Rufus Thomas
The only songs I’m familiar with are Louie Louie and Since I Fell for You (so romantic). Do you know what the top hits were from the year of your birth? Check out this nifty View Chart Archives feature on Billboard.com to find out (it goes back to 1955).

I’ve already reviewed the bareMinerals READY eyeshadow 2.0 formulation and wanted to show you another one of these magnificent duos.
Since my last review, I’ve learned that these shadows are made with a special proprietary complex known as SeaNutritive Mineral™, combined with cold pressed Borage oil, caffeine and cucumber which offer anti-aging and depuffing benefits.
Borage oil has been used for years as an anti-inflammatory and we’ve all read how cucumber has long been used to depuff tired eyes.
Cosmetic technology is full of surprises and the jury is still out on how these ingredients (and the READY eyeshadow 2.0 formulation) aide in giving the appearance of a softer, smoother, more youthful eye.
But I can say that I found them to apply like the best cream shadow (even though it’s a powder) with intense color saturation and beautiful texture.
In this post, I’m showing you The Showstopper…
Left to Right: Bravo (a light periwinkle lavender), Encore (a frosted plum lavender)
Left to Right: Bravo (a light periwinkle lavender), Encore (a frosty plum lavender)
Left to Right: Bravo, Encore, a closer look (photo taken indoors). Drool and double drool!
Availability: Ulta, Sephora, Boutiques
Price: $20US, .1oz
5/5 Smooches: Great color pay off, sophisticated texture, and smooth application. I give it a round of applause!
