Recently, I started cleaning up my act in the food department. My life now consists of green smoothies (I adore!), fresh organic fruit and loads of vegetables.
And while I’m feeling better now at 47 than I did in my 20’s I do miss one thing…cake!
There’s nothing about cake I don’t love. From their versatile nature (short ones, tall ones, full ones, skinny ones) to the array of toppings….they are delicious works of art.
Insert napkin break…my mouth is watering
I won’t fib, when I noticed the MAC Me Over collection offered a Shadestick called Cakeshop my taste buds were the first to notice. Sad? Yes, even I have to agree.
After my initial pavlovian response, I fell head over heels with the color.
Cakeshop is described by MAC as a frosted pewter. In reality, it’s more unique than that because while there is a detectable frosted pewter hue there is also a slight green tinge to it.
Like most Shadesticks, Cakeshop is creamy, and glides on easily (a very dense synthetic brush will work but I find fingers your best tool with this product). You can use this sumptuous Shadestick as an all over lid color or as an eyeshadow base. The other day, I used Cakeshop as a lower lash liner along with the muted green grey shadow from the Lady Grey quad – it doesn’t get better than that folks!

I don’t own a shadow in a color quite like this.
I’m delighted with this Shadestick and will be picking up another in Street Cool (a violet taupe with grey).
Isn’t it nice to know that we can have our cake and eat apply it too…
What about you? Are you a fan of stick cream shadows or do you prefer the potted form?
Availability: MAC stores, MAC counters and maccosmetics.com (Cakeshop is a limited edition shade)
Price: $17.50, 0.05 oz
4/5 Smooches: Cakeshop smoothie anyone?

How does that tongue twister go…
She sells sea shells by the seashore.
The shells she sells are surely seashells.
So if she sells shells on the seashore,
I’m sure she sells seashore shells.
What I like about the MAC Me Over cream color base in Seaside (a soft, pretty peach rose color) is that it rolls off the tongue easily, is delightfully creamy (almost has a watery consistency with great stick) and glides onto the skin smoothly!
Cream color bases are one of MAC’s most versatile, multi-use products because they can be applied as:
- An Eyeshadow Base – wonderful for pigments or shadows that have fall out because the base is tacky and like a magnet, those beautiful flakes of color adhere right to the eyelid
- Face Highlighter
- Cheek Color and as a
- Lip product
Seaside can be used in all those ways EXCEPT the lips according to the package insert.
Swatched on NC20-25 skin. Photo taken in natural daylight.
As an eyeshadow base it offers a sheer wash of color with good base properties.
On the cheeks it’s lovely. Seaside isn’t intense in color so I find it best to use when you want a subtle highlight or glow over your blush and/or over tops of the cheekbone (and brow bone). Note: This product is best used in a patting motion. Rubbing or buffing onto the skin may disrupt your foundation.
I’ve tried Seaside (a limited edition shade) in a variety of ways and love it! The tongue twister…not so much
Availability: MAC stores, MAC counters and maccosmetics.com
Price: $17.50, 0.12 oz
3/5 Smooches: The “perfect” base? No. But a versatile must for any makeup mavens bag.

When I heard MAC was launching new fluidlines I was ridiculously giddy. The last time I was this over the moon was when my hubby surprised me with tickets to a recent Joan Jett concert – I immediately turned into a screaming sixteen year old.
I didn’t scream when I brought home fluidlines in Avenue and Dark Envy (from the New Black sub-collection of the MAC Me Over collection)…but I did feel a pulse of excitement in my throat.
Gel liners are my eyeliner of choice. They glide on easily creating a precise line – as thin or thick as you choose – and wear like nobody’s business. Seriously, MAC fluidline dries within about 10-15 seconds of applying and won’t smudge, flake or come off until you’re ready (have eye makeup remover handy).
•Avenue is a stunning deep blackened brown with subtle gold flecks of fine glitter. If you get one thing from the MAC Me Over collection I would suggest this liner. Because of the glitter, I also suggest you keep this away from the waterline. As a side note, I can’t help but wonder if Joan would wear this…I’m thinking, yes.
•Dark Envy is described as a blackened green but it is instead a deep hunter green with a slight metallic or pearl finish (could it be both?). It does not go on as intensely in color as it is in the pot but you can build the color to deep levels of green goodness. With my passion for green, Dark Envy will be in heavy rotation this fall.
Both fluidlines can be used in the obvious way, as an eyeliner, and work beautifully as base for eyeshadows.
You drive me wild fluidline…you really do!
Availability: A Limited Edition collection, you can find the fluidlines at MAC stores, MAC counters and maccosmetics.com while supplies last.
Price: $15
4/5 Smooches: Pour me another!

And a quick shot of Joan Jett LIVE (she was spectacular!)
The wind was howling but Joan Jett rocked it like it was her first concert.

I just got my hands on a few pieces from the MAC Me Over collection and wanted to share a few photos with you. Although I haven’t had ample time to play with the items I am so far very pleased with what I picked up.
I’m especially thrilled with the Lady Grey eyeshadow quad – the colors are divine and from what I can tell, has very nice pigmentation.
And please don’t get me started on the Avenue and Dark Envy fluidlines. Have I mentioned I may be slightly more addicted to fluidlines than chocolate chip cookies? Yeah, it’s true!
I’ll be sharing swatches in the next day or so along with my “official statement” about the collection.
❤Liz
P.S. MAC Me Over contain limited edition items (surprise, surprise). Rumor has it some stores launched today with dismal excitement while others sold out of items quickly (like the MAC pro store I got my items through). If you’re interested in any of the LE items, you may want to move quickly.
P.P.S. The MAC Me Over collection is available now in the u.s. at all MAC stores, MAC counters and on maccosmetics.com.
