Around this time of year I look forward to three things:
1. Summer blockbusters
2. Shaved ice (coconut is my favorite flavor)
3. Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale
It always pays to establish a relationship with the Business Managers at your favorite makeup counters because they will usually (if they’re skilled with good customer service that is) give you early notice of what collections or special items are coming down the makeup pike.
Case in point, I got a call the other day from my Chanel gal inviting me to preview the small collection being released for Nordstrom’s annual anniversary sale. You can be sure I wasted no time grabbing my handbag, keys and revving up my engine (literally and figuratively) – I always enjoy the thrill of product sneak peeks…it’s almost better than finding a $20 bill lodged in the cell phone compartment of my handbag!
I’ve been anticipating the Chanel Le Blanc collection for months and jumped for joy when I discovered it was being brought to Nordstrom next month (sale starts July 11th). Le Blanc is a collection that launched in Asia for Spring 2012 and included skincare and makeup – the color collection is now a Nordstrom exclusive.
For Nordstrom Anniversary 2012 you can expect: •Illusion D’Ombre in Riviére $36, •Jous Contraste blush in Fleur de Lotus $43, •Les 4 Ombres in Rives $58, •Aqualumière Gloss in Alizé (soft peach) and Roselin (poppy pink) $28, •Stylo Yeux in Beige Clair $30. All products are limited edition. I’m told the Rouge Allure lipsticks in the promo images are permanent but I can’t get a definitive answer on their shade names.
Beauty Black Book Notes:
After swatching everything (I didn’t have a camera on me or I’d include in-store swatch photos in this post), my picks are well, everything except the Rives quad and Aqualumiére Gloss in Alizé. Chanel round shadows are baked and I found the two lightest shades in Rives quite difficult to work with plus, the shades themselves are not extraordinary. The two deeper shades are gorgeous – smooth, well pigmented – but two shadows aren’t enough for me to justify buying a $58 palette. Alizé is a pretty neutral peach gloss (I love the formulation…it’s a pity they’ve been discontinued in the U.S.) but not extraordinary enough to purchase.
Because this is an anniversary collection, I can’t bring it home until the day of the sale. As soon as I do, I’ll share preliminary photo’s and swatches. Having said that, I have a sneaking suspicion this collection won’t last so if you’re interested (or simply curious), I encourage you to call your local Nordstrom counter to arrange for a preview or ask if they can hold the items you’d like from the collection until the first day of the sale, July 11th.
Happy shopping!

Last night, I got a call from my Chanel SA inviting me to preview the small collection that’s being sold exclusively during Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale starting on July 11th. I wasted no time and with keys and credit card (debit actually) in hand, I raced over to marvel at the Le Blanc collection (released in Asia for Spring 2012).
To say I’m anxious to receive this collection is an understatement because although it’s small, the items are stunning. Be on the look out for the beige eye liner which I expect to work beautifully in the waterline!
While there, I also picked up a few things from the Chanel Fall 2012 collection (seems so strange to be shopping for fall when we’re still heavy into summer!)- more on that in another post – and got the skinny on the upcoming Esteé Lauder Violet Underground Fall 2012 collection. It’s a small collection with a violet theme (hello!) that is slated to hit my local counter around mid-July.
Inspired by punk-rock and high fashion, the deep violet hues are meant to replace/reinvent black (sold!) with an avant-garde twist.
From the promo photos alone, I am most intrigued by the chubby Pure Color Quick-Thick Eyeliner with it’s felt tip and of course the Violet Underground 5-color shadow palette formulated with what’s fast become my favorite formulation of part gel, part powder, part cream.
Collection Includes:
Pure Color 5- Color Eyeshadow Palette, Violet Underground - $48.00 Limited Edition
Pure Color Quick-Thick Eyeliner, Black – $21.50 Limited Edition
Sumptuous Extreme Mascara, Black – $25.00 (a Beauty Black Book Top 5 mascara pick!)
Pure Color Velvet Lipstick – $25.00 Limited Edition
- Black Cassis – deep wine (Matte)
- Violet Crush – violet (Matte)
Pure Color Gloss – $22.50 Limited Edition
- Chaotic Currant – deep plum wine
- Rebellious Violet – dazzling violet
Pure Color Nail Lacquer - $20.00 Limited Edition
- Black Iris – avant-garde violet
Violet is such a beautiful shade and it’s making a BIG appearance this fall – I prefer it to black so this collection is right up my alley! I for one am anxious to try out some sultry looks with this palette of colors. How about you? Do you already own one of Esteé Lauders tribrid products and how do you like them?

My first post on the first day of August…I feel the need to commemorate today in some way. Any ideas?
Before Nordstrom said goodbye to another stellar anniversary celebration, I jetted over to the cosmetic department last week. And while there, I met new SA’s, got the “inside” gossip on department shenanigans (I did not ask but I did listen!) and of course, dabble with a few new collections.
You’ll see a few of the items I picked up from Estee Lauder and NARS fall collections on my vanity (photos, swatches and reviews coming next week).
Have a beauty-filled week!

Every weekend I sit myself down and casually click and read a variety of blogs. They are mostly beauty blogs but as a lover of all things beauty I also frequent art, design and lifestyle blogs.
Starting this week, I thought you might like a glimpse at the blogs that catch my attention each week and spark a new find, a new idea and/or a new way of looking at the beauty around me.
Introducing this weeks Beauty Black Book Best in Blogging Weekend Roundup (how’s that for a mouthful!):
Karla Sugar presented a nice beauty department glance of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. She tempted me beyond comprehension with her Le Metier de Beaute Rock and Romance nail polish swatches!
Best Things in Beauty put her beauty sleuthing to work and gave a sneak peek of the Giorgio Armani palettes from the fall collection. Holy Armani is this a beautiful collection.
Fab Over Forty reveals that concealer/highlighter pens are not created equal. Her head-to-head (or pen-to-pen) comparison has me going back to a tried and true pen in my makeup kit. She also tempts us (and by us I mean me!) with a look at the Dior Blue Tie fall collection review and swatches. I swoon.
The Beauty Look Book did a fun look back at Chanel’s nail polish releases for the past five fall collections. She has a wonderful archive!
Daly Beauty showed us how to feel beautiful while we “glow.” Like Jane, I too believe that “luxury in the little things we do for ourselves is a good thing.”
For the Love of Design showcases pops of fuchsia outdoors! These photos are stunning, inspiring and fantastic in every way…spoken as a true lover of hot pink!
This That Beauty gave us the low down on a R-evolutionary lash product from Hourglass – a top coat for lashes that exaggerates the lash line to mimic the look of faux lashes. I can’t get to Sephora fast enough!
The gals at Beauty Bets shared their secret recipe for sexy, beachy, wind-swept hair. I’m not a DIY girl but this sea salt spray is beach-alicious.
How do you set your foundation, keep shine at bay AND avoid looking overly powdered in hot summer months? 25fLondon shares a MAC vs. Chanel comparison in “Chanel Loose Powder: MAC MSFN’S Classy Older Sister.”
And speaking of Chanel, they’re having quite a run what with two collection releases and the Nordstrom exclusive collection. Whew! Be sure to check out the Byzance de Chanel collection (a gem of the week) review from yours truly..my Chanel cup runeth over (in a good way!).
