The moment I twisted the cap from Clarins Enchanted Summer Lip Balm in Nude Dehli, I was immediately reminded of summer. One summer in particular…
It was the 70′s. I was 10 years old spending a couple of months in Puerto Rico visiting my grandmother. Each morning, I woke to the smell of fresh baked bread, scrambled eggs and Stevie Wonder. The atmosphere was always filled with excitement – as though at any moment something important was about to happen.
Once a week, grandmother and I would spruce up and go on her “visits.” It was such an adventure, through my 10 year old eyes, riding one bus after another stopping at far away and unusual cities each with their own unique sound and scent. I was mostly fascinated by the people – with their fast talking lingo and quick moving hands they appeared like animated auctioneers and yet they looked so….calm, relaxed. Not rushed like they were back home in L.A.
I didn’t know it at the time, but my grandmother was a bookie – yeah, she was a character. And those long bus rides where grandma would meet up with different men and women to exchange “papers,” was her weekly route to pick up and make bets. I still shake my head and laugh at the thought! And in case you’re wondering, I did not inherit that hobby. Instead, I book hair appointments and bet on the longevity of a lipstick!
On those treks into the heart of Puerto Rico, we snacked on the various delicacies offered – mostly from food cart vendors. Mango and coconut shaved ice were my favorite treats…still are today.
And when I took in the aroma of the new Clarins summertime lip balm (with its fruity mango scent), I suddenly felt like that 10 year old girl – curious, adventurous and filled with the excitement of things to come…
Clarins Enchanted Summer Lip Balm in Nude Dehli
There are lots of shimmers in this lip balm but they are very wearable (either alone or over another lip product), does not feel gritty on the lips, does not migrate and is not sticky. It has a fruity aroma that reminds me of mango and wears for about an hour on me (it has a fair amount of slip to this product so the wear isn’t especially long). I should also mention that the scent (and taste) lingers so if you’re sensitive, Nude Dehli (and other shades in the Clarins Lip Balm range) may not be for you.
Clarins Enchanted Summer Lip Balm in Nude Dehli – it’s a high shine product with slip.
On my lips, the shade is a soft golden rosewood and while it’s not opaque, the color I end up with looks exactly like the swatch. Coupled with the beautifully refined glitter, it looks lively and lush. Plus, the Clarins Lip Balm feels smooth and hydrating. I wouldn’t categorize this as a balm per say (it feels much more gloss like than balm like), but it does feel terrific.
Availability: Clarins counters
Price: $18/US, .5oz
4/5 Smooches: The color is beautiful, the finish is fine and it has the power to take you back in time (yes, I meant for that to rhyme).
